Itinerary
DAY 01: KM 82-SALAPUNKU - QANABAMBA - LLACTAPATA - TARAYOC
We begin our adventure with hotel pick-up and transfer to the town of Ollantaytambo, where we will stop to use restroom facilities, have breakfast, and/or buy any items that may not have been obtained for the Inca Trail. We continue the journey to the starting point of the hike, Km 82, where we will visit the Interpretation Center of the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu.
We then proceed to the archaeological groups of Salapunku and Qanabamba, where we will witness the incredible work of the Inca culture amidst spectacular landscapes, alongside the majestic Wilkarakay and Willcamayu River.
Lunch will be provided en route, and we will enter the control point at km 88 before reaching the Llactapata archaeological group. We will end our hike in the afternoon and camp in the town of Tarayoc, with tea and dinner in the evening.
DAY 02: TARAYOC- WAYLLABAMBA- YUNCACHIMPA – LLULLUCHAPAMPA
We start a new day with a wake-up tea to organize ourselves and enjoy breakfast before starting our hike through the villages of Hatunchaca, Wayllabamba, and a marvelous native forest of polylepis, Queuñales, and Chachacomos typical of inter-Andean valleys. Lunch will be at Yunca Chimpa.
In the afternoon, we continue our route to the Llulluchapampa campsite. If the sky is clear, we can admire the Milky Way in all its splendor. Rest, tea, and dinner in the evening.
DAY 03: PACAYMAYO –RUNKURAKAY – SAYACMARCA – PUYUPATAMARCA
We wake up early for breakfast and begin a challenging day to reach the highest point of our journey, the Warmiwañusca pass (4,215 meters above sea level). We then descend to the Pacaymayo Valley, where we will enjoy lunch and have access to public restroom facilities. After a rest, we continue ascending to the Runkurakay archaeological group and subsequently the pass of the same name.
After taking some beautiful photographs, we descend to the Sayacmarca archaeological group, passing through Chaquicocha and the spectacular Inca trail with fine masonry, flora, and fauna characteristic of the cloud forest. We camp in Puyupatamarca (2,750 meters above sea level), with spectacular views of the two valleys, tea in the afternoon, and dinner.
DAY 04: INTIPATA – WIÑAYHUAYNA – INTIPUNKU - MACHU PICCHU
Before breakfast, we observe the Salkantay snow-capped mountain. After a satisfying breakfast with breathtaking views of the Andean mountain range, we descend to the Intipata archaeological group, passing through spectacular Inca staircases and observing abundant flora and fauna until we reach the lunch spot in Wiñaywayna.
In the afternoon, we continue for 2 hours until we reach the Sun Gate, where we will have a spectacular view of our wonder of the world, Machu Picchu. We then descend to the guardian’s house in the Machu Picchu citadel and take the bus down to the town of Machu Picchu. Accommodation in the hotel, dinner, and overnight stay.
DAY 5: GUIDED VISIT TO THE WONDER OF THE WORLD - MACHU PICCHU
After having meals, we board the bus uphill and enter the Machu Picchu control point for the guided tour of our wonder.
In the afternoon, we take the return train to the town of Ollantaytambo and then take the bus back to Cusco, concluding our services.
